2011 Edition: Patriot League Commit Tracker

It's time again for one of my most popular blog postings of the year: the 2011 Patriot League Commit tracker, where I announce the incoming Patriot League classes, compiled from press reports from all over the nation, on what has unofficially become known as "Signing Day".  (This year, Signing Day is on February 2nd, and I'm releasing the first draft of my list six days early.)

Below the flip, you'll have all the information I have on firm Patriot League commits that I have. It will have every name, every link, and every reference that I can track down for all seven schools (notably, this includes Fordham, still a member of the Patriot League but ineligible for the league crown due to the fact that they offer scholarships in football). And it will be updated often over the next few months, as soon as I get a link to their announcement from some (reputable) source.

So click the link, and enjoy. (more)

Keep in mind that this blog posting is a running total of all the commits I've been able to confirm independently on the internet.  It will continue to be updated as I get wind of more commitments.  If you know of more commitments, I'd encourage you to leave a comment on this blog post, or email me, and I'll add it to the list as soon as I get it.

Thanks to the Patriot League policy that their institutions are not required to participate in the "Letter of Intent" program, all seven schools do not announce their recruiting classes on "Signing Day", scheduled to happen next week. (Check out this blog posting I made on this subject that still applies today.)

In a nutshell, while some Patriot League schools tend to announce on signing day anyway, unlike most FCS schools they are not obligated to do so - and in fact, some wait months before officially announcing their incoming classes.

My goal is to get as complete a list as I possibly can before the schools themselves announce their recruiting classes.

Enough with the formalities... here's the list of verified commits that I've been able to find.

LC fans would love to see the Pards scoring 3* recruits from Alabama, but that's not happening just yet.
Alonzo Harris is a La-Lafayette recruit.

Thanks for catching Alonzo Harris. In Scout they incorrectly said he committed to Lafayette, then changed it today!

According to scoutingohio.com, Remington has commited to Lehigh. Even though you had him listed for Bucknell, I was still hoping he would opt for Holy Cross. Looks like Lehigh has won out.

in regards to "all seven not announcing their class," lafayette announces their entire class and also has a live chat with coach tavani and a signing day show later tonight.

why not us?

I kind of wondered how anybody at East Stroudsburg could ever get into Lehigh. After reading the kid's reasons in the Pocono Record and seeing his command of the English language, he made a wise choice in switching schools.
Anonymous said…
For the record James Coscia is a high honors student, who could have went to any college in the nation. As far as football there is not another Patriot leauge recruit as good as this kid. First team All State for big schools with 17 sacks. We understand Lehigh is upset that Coscia changed from Lehigh to Lafayette, who could blame them. If I was a Lehigh quarterback I would be scared also. It is a scary thought of a 230lb,4.6 40yd, 37"vertical and 4.18 pro shuttle coming at ya. Add in a 350lb bench press it is a nightmare. The only good news for Lehigh is Coscia may go Pro in 3 years instead of 4.

Laughyette hasn't had a very good recruiting class in the past few years. They are due for a good one and need one badly; hence, I would think Frank pulled out all stops this year. Lot of holes to fill in the Leotards lineup, which is attractive for kids who feel they might get on the field quicker. As we know, we've had a fair number of frosh the past few years make it into the 'two deep'. We'll be fine.

The poster making the inflamantory comments here is probably the same one who posts idiotic comments on the Colgate Board.

This poster also degrades a wonderful young man like James Coscia. No wonder he moved away from Lehigh- he wanted to avoid idiots like the commenters here. James is a very good player and an even better student. Any PL school would've loved to get him, and Lafayette is very happy to have him.

No, this idiot hasn't poseted on the Colgate board, but thanks for the tip.

Try reading the kid's comments in the Record - he doesn't come off as a nuclear scientist. And I'll give you two to one odds the kid doesn't go to the pros in three years or ever. We're talking minor league college football here.
Anonymous said…
Who cares what he said in the paper? Also everyone knows that quotes are many times taken out of context or strung together in a clumsy manner.

He is an honor roll student, and that trumps a few lines of text in the local newspaper.

I read the commentary. He does really sound quite dumb. I guess if you go to East Stroudsburg anyone could be an honors student. I also like the inflated numbers on his speed and strength. To the pros in 3 years?? Can you imagine his Daddy writing that response on this board? He must have been fuming, or was that yo Momma that wrote that Jimmy? Good luck losers!
Anonymous said…
There's a loser on this board alright. Not surprising though. After all, this is lehigh nation.

Jim, could it be any more clear that you made the right choice?

A pro from Lafayette? In three years? Bwahahahaha! He won't even sniff the playing field his freshman year for the hapless also ran has been Pards
Anonymous said…
Cleary the pro comment was a joke.... I know you Lehigh guys can't grasp that. Coscia is a great addition, and a player Lehigh really wanted. You guys look like immature children making inaccurate comments regarding a high school kid, just because he spurned Lehigh.
Anonymous said…
So Lafayette stinks, but Coscia won't see the field? Coscia is clearly a good player so if he doesn't see the field Lafayette isnt so bad afterall.

Good logic chief.
Anonymous said…
No, it just means that first year players generally don't see the field for any 1AA program, not just the sloppy Lehigh wannabes
Anonymous said…
Lehigh may have wanted him and his last minute defection was more of a character flaw that was exposed than anything, I don't see it affecting the fact that LU has turned a major corner under Coen and Cecchini and Frank's skanks need to start thinking about bringing in a real coach, not one that runs on gimmicks and motivational tools rather than teaching, coaching and putting a product on teh field that can compete with Lehigh again. Unless we are willing to sh can Tavani, we can watch Lehigh continue to beat our asses. That's the reality. James Coscia or not. Personally I don't want a guy like him, but hey that's me, I'm used to a winning program, not this.

his afternoon it was packed inside the Paramus Catholic school library. I am sorry to say I didn’t get a really great picture of the three guys, I didn’t feel like pushing other media types out of the way. But it was a big afternoon for the Paladins, from left, star DT Marquise Wright made it official, signing with Rutgers. Matt Giachinta…you know, when people sign with Army, they don’t really sign, they receive an appointment to West Point. That’s always special. Giachinta will spend a year at Army Prep, before moving up. Brendan Walsh signed with Colgate. Walsh had my favorite moment of the day, when he couldn’t help but flash a big smile after signing his letter. You couldn’t help but be happy for him.
There was more….

How The Ivy League Is Able To Break the NCAA's Scholarship Limits and Still Consider Themselves FCS

By now you've seen the results.  In 2018, the Ivy League has taken the FCS by storm. Perhaps it was Penn's 30-10 defeat of Lehigh a couple of weeks ago .  Or maybe it was Princeton's 50-9 drubbing of another team that made the FCS Playoffs last year, Monmouth.  Or maybe it was Yale's shockingly dominant 35-14 win over nationally-ranked Maine last weekend. The Ivy League has gone an astounding 12-4 so far in out-of-conference play, many of those wins coming against the Patriot League. But it's not just against the Patriot League where the Ivy League has excelled.  Every Ivy League school has at least one out-of-conference victory, which is remarkable since it is only three games into their football season.  The four losses - Rhode Island over Harvard, Holy Cross over Yale, Delaware over Cornell, and Cal Poly over Brown - were either close losses that could have gone either way or expected blowouts of teams picked to be at the bottom of the Ivy League. W

Made-Up Midseason Grades for Lehigh Football

We are now officially midway through the 2023 Lehigh football season.  The Mountain Hawks sit at 1-5 overall, and 0-1 in the Patriot League. I thought I'd go ahead and make up some midseason grades, and set some "fan goals" for the second half. The 2023 Mountain Hawks were picked to finish fifth in the seven team Patriot League.  In order to meet or exceed that expectation, they'll probably have to go at least 3-2 the rest of the way in conference play.  Their remaining games are vs. Georgetown, at Bucknell, vs. Holy Cross, at Colgate, and vs. Lafayette in The Rivalry. Can they do it? Culture Changing: B+ .  I was there in the Bronx last week after the tough 38-35 defeat to Fordham, and there wasn't a single player emerging from the locker room that looked like they didn't care.  Every face was glum.  They didn't even seem sad.  More frustrated and angry. That may seem normal, considering the agonizing way the Mountain Hawks lost, but it was a marked chan

Fifteen Guys Who Might be Lehigh's Next Football Coach (and Five More)

If you've been following my Twitter account, you might have caught some "possibilities" as Lehigh's next head football coach like Lou Holtz, Brett Favre and Bo Pelini .  The chance that any of those three guys actually are offered and accept the Lehigh head coaching position are somewhere between zero and zero.  (The full list of my Twitter "possibilities" are all on this thread on the Lehigh Sports Forum .) However the actual Lehigh head football coaching search is well underway, with real names and real possibilities. I've come up with a list of fifteen possible names, some which I've heard whispered as candidates, others which might be good fits at Lehigh for a variety of reasons. UPDATE: I have found five more names of possible head coaches that I am adding to this list below. Who are the twenty people?  Here they are, in alphabetical order.
