Players of the Week, Holy Cross vs. Lehigh

The Players of the Week were pretty easy choices this time around. Offensive Hawk of the Week: Junior RB Jay Campbell (131 yards rushing on 21 carries, 18 yard TD pass) Defensive Hawks of the Week: (tie) S enior LB Troy Taylor (9 tackles, 1 1/2 tackles for loss including 1 sack, 1 key forced fumble) and junior FS John Venerio (7 tackles, 1 interception, 1 pass breakup) Special Teams Hawk of the Week: Freshman PK Jake Peery (2/2 XP, 2/3 FGs, 23 yards, 38 yards, missed a long 45 yarder) I've been remiss in reprinting the exclusive pieces that Lehighsports.Com has put out about members of the senior class. Here are two of them: Senior LB Heath Brickner : Relentless the Books and Opposing Backs Senior OL Frank Giacalone : Up for Any Challenge Also, former Lehigh WR Sekou Yansane was named a winner of the 2009 Academic Momentum Award through the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS).

Brian Jackson Is MVP of The 144th (According to Readers)

While Lehigh's men's basketball's 77-64 loss to St. Joe's yesterday was no moral victory , it does bring back into focus the big victory from before Thanksgiving: Lehigh's win in the 144th meeting between Lehigh and Lafayette. And you, the readers of the blog, have spoken. According to you, the MVP of the 144th is none other than senior DL Brian Jackson . In the biggest game of the year, he came up with his best day as a Mountain Hawk: 8 tackles with 3 1/2 sacks for 19 yards lost. His pass rush - against, mind you, a powerful Leopard "O" line - was a key reason that Lafayette's offense never got on track against us. His final game as a Mountain Hawk is one that definitely deserves the honors bestowed upon him by you, the readers. Game balls for the 144th: Reader's Choice: Senior DL Brian Jackson Offense: (tie) Sophomore QB J.B. Clark (12/22 passing, 201 yards, 2 TDs), senior WR Sekou Yansane (3 catches, 56 yards, including one ESPN SportsCen...

J.B. Clark Is Player of the Week Again

Despite the disappointing performance this Saturday, sophomore QB J.B. Clark once again gets LFN Player of the Week honors this week. Clark had his best day statistically in a Mountain Hawk uniform, going 24-for-39 with 338 yards passing and 4 TDs (and no interceptions). He also showed a ton of grit, rallying from a 21-6 deficit for 27 unanswered points. He could have very easily had five TDs: he hooked up on a 58 yard strike to senior WR Sekou Yansane that was set up a 6 yard TD run by senior RB Adam Watson , too. His gutty performance makes him the Player of the Week this week. Game balls will be going to: Reader's Choice: Sophomore QB J.B. Clark Offense: (tie) Senior WR Sekou Yansane and senior WR Mike Fitzgerald (Yansane: 6 receptions, 113 yards, 1 TD, Fitzgerald, 7 catches, 111 yards, 2 TDs) Defense: Senior DT Brian Jackson (7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss) Special teams: Sophomore DB/KR John "Fear Itself" Kennedy (5 kickoff returns for 89 yards, plus a 15 y...

Yansane is Player of the Week

In what can only be described as the closest vote ever, Lehigh Football Nation readers anointed senior WR Sekou "Stunt Man" Yansane as Player of the Week this week. The "Stunt Man" had an amazing 11 receptions for 132 yards and 1 TD against an extremely talented Harvard secondary. Aside from the touchdown which allowed Lehigh to get back into the game in the third quarter, Yansane was singly responsible for more than half Lehigh's receiving yards on the afternoon. His heroic effort was more than worthy of Player of the week honors. Game Balls will be going to: Reader's Choice: Senior WR Sekou "Stunt Man" Yansane Offense: Senior RB Matt McGowan (16 rushes for 105 yards, first back in 31 games to get more than 100 rushing yards against Harvard) Defense: Junior LB Matt Cohen (8 tackles, 3 tackles for loss including 1 1/2 sacks) Special Teams: Senior P/K Jason Leo (3 punts, 47 yard average; 3/3 extra points, 30 yard FG)
