Some quick notes before we enter the preview of the Georgetown game. First of all, here are this week's LFN "Players of the Week": Offensive Hawk: Freshman QB Michael Colvin (career-high 74 yards rushing vs. Harvard, including a 55 yard scamper that set up Lehigh's first TD) Defensive Hawk (tie): Senior LB Al Pierce (10 tackles, 1 sacks, 2 QB hurries) and sophomore DB/LB Colin Newton (10 tackles, 1/2 sack, 2 pass break-ups) Special Teams Hawk: Sophomore P Alex Smith (6 punts, 39.8 yard average) This week, some more bad news came down the pike in a season filled with it: news from the Express-Times that senior DT Phil Winett and senior LB Heath Brickner are officially done for the year with their injuries , and senior LB Troy Taylor is questionable as well. It was a perfect day for a lot of things on Saturday: mowing the lawn, sunning yourself outside or simply going to the park. It was also a perfect day for the annual rite of spring for Lehigh football fans: the Brown/White Spring game, the official end to the spring practice season. In pristine 75 degree temperatures with a bit of a Spring wind blowing through Murray Goodman stadium, Lehigh's offense (the White) proved themselves up to the challenge of performing against the much-hyped defense (the Brown) with an impressive 53-20 showing . Compared to last year - when there was an open audition for the role of starting quarterback, and the signalcallers combined for a multitude of turnovers and interceptions - junior QB J.B. Clark and sophomore QB Chris Lum seemed determined to put that performance behind them. And their numbers bear that out: Clark went 15 for 20 for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Lum went 12 of 16 for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns. Add to that the stats of j...

The Lehigh athletic department just released a spring update , and it's quite an interesting read. Four practices to go, with the annual Brown/White scrimmage taking place on April 18th at Goodman Stadium (free admission) - and interesting information has come to light: Call it the revenge of the "super Sophomores", as there were a multitude of members of the sophomore class that were singled out: Coen says he’s been pleased with the progress of that group overall. “ Sophomore RB Matt Fitz has been impressive; he’s competed well and really improved from last year. Sophomore WR De’Vaughn Gordon and sophomore WR Jake Drwal have done some nice things, and on defense sophomore LB Fred Mihal at linebacker and sophomore CB Colin Newton have both had very strong springs. Despite senior QB Quadir Carter winning Patriot League Player of the Week honors, this weeks Reader's Choice Player of the Week award goes to the tough running of senior RB Matt McGowan . Out of 375 total offensive yards for the Mountain Hawks, the Hazelton Area product was responsible for 244 of those all-purpose yards: 178 on the ground, and 66 off of screen passes. One of those passes found McGowan zigging and zagging for yards, shedding tacklers before getting into the end zone; his rushing touch came frrom him bursting through a person-sized hole on the line of scrimmage and again zigging his way through the secondary for the score. After his tough performance, he certainly is well deserving of the "Reader's Choice" honors this week. In the closest voting in Player of the week history, junior LB Matt Cohen barely won LFN Readers' "Player of the Week". The quiet local defender from Allentown Central Catholic doesn't always get the press and attention he deserves, but with 7 tackles last week, including 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks he was a monster out there. All three tackles for loss were in key spots: one on a fourth down gave possession to Lehigh; another knocked Princeton out of field goal range; and the third pushed the Tigers back from a 1st and goal on the 2 yard line, and set up the blocked field goal attempt that set up our only score.
