As of 12:30 PM today, the counter passed over to 85 days until Lehigh's home opener versus Central Connecticut State.  On this soggy first day of the US Open, we continue our day countdown towards the Lehigh football season. Today, we highlight No. 85,  junior WR Alex Buford .

At any given time I have about a dozen writing subjects buzzing around in my head like a monkey on uppers.  Today I woke up and said, what do I write about today?  Realignment?  The CAA?  Stony Brook?  Appalachian State's move to the Sun Belt?  Lehigh's expected QB battle in camp this August? Instead, inspiration came from an unexpected source: USA Today reporter Dan Wolken 's Twitter feed . Twitter allows a 140 character limit on tweets, meaning statistics posted there can be interpreted any way one chooses.  And his Twitter report from the NCAA convocation in Florida made me (incorrectly) defensive - but allows me to give some insight behind the numbers of Division I Athletics.

Today, we highlight No. 86,  freshman TE Zach Bucklin .

The NCAA released academic progress rate information on all their member schools, and - here's a shocker - Lehigh and the Patriot League in general had stellar APR numbers . Nine Mountain Hawk teams had perfect scores of 1000 - meaning, every single athlete on those teams carried more than a 2.7 GPA and made progress towards graduation. One of those teams was the men's basketball team, including a certain player named G C.J. McCollum who will be hearing his name called in the NBA Draft later this month. The football season starts in 89 days, and while there is no No. 89 currently on the roster, the official numbers for the 2013 season have been released , revealing a member at No. 91, which I skipped this weekend. Therefore, we highlight incoming freshman DL T.J. Stubbs , who just was issued No. 91.
