McGowan is Player of the Week

Despite senior QB Quadir Carter winning Patriot League Player of the Week honors, this weeks Reader's Choice Player of the Week award goes to the tough running of senior RB Matt McGowan . Out of 375 total offensive yards for the Mountain Hawks, the Hazelton Area product was responsible for 244 of those all-purpose yards: 178 on the ground, and 66 off of screen passes. One of those passes found McGowan zigging and zagging for yards, shedding tacklers before getting into the end zone; his rushing touch came frrom him bursting through a person-sized hole on the line of scrimmage and again zigging his way through the secondary for the score. After his tough performance, he certainly is well deserving of the "Reader's Choice" honors this week. Game Balls will be going to: Reader's Choice: Senior RB Matt McGowan Defense: Senior DB Quadir Carter (13 total tackles including 9 solo stops, 2 interceptions in red zone) Defense: Junior LB Heath Brickner (10 total tackle...

Yansane is Player of the Week

In what can only be described as the closest vote ever, Lehigh Football Nation readers anointed senior WR Sekou "Stunt Man" Yansane as Player of the Week this week. The "Stunt Man" had an amazing 11 receptions for 132 yards and 1 TD against an extremely talented Harvard secondary. Aside from the touchdown which allowed Lehigh to get back into the game in the third quarter, Yansane was singly responsible for more than half Lehigh's receiving yards on the afternoon. His heroic effort was more than worthy of Player of the week honors. Game Balls will be going to: Reader's Choice: Senior WR Sekou "Stunt Man" Yansane Offense: Senior RB Matt McGowan (16 rushes for 105 yards, first back in 31 games to get more than 100 rushing yards against Harvard) Defense: Junior LB Matt Cohen (8 tackles, 3 tackles for loss including 1 1/2 sacks) Special Teams: Senior P/K Jason Leo (3 punts, 47 yard average; 3/3 extra points, 30 yard FG)

Clark Is Player of the Week

On the back of his great offensive performance on Saturday, sophomore QB J.B. Clark resoundingly gets LFN Player of the Week honors this week. Clark went 18-for-27 for 292 yards and 4 touchdowns, and added one big touchdown with his feet as well. He led the first offensive Lehigh explosion for the year, putting up 5 of Lehigh's six TDs en route to a 45 point performance against last year's Patriot League champions. The Jupiter, FL native well deserved this honor voted on by you, the Lehigh fans. Game balls will be going to: Reader's Choice: Sophomore QB J.B. Clark Offense: Senior RB Matt McGowan (24 rushes, 110 yards, 1 TD, plus 3 catches for 59 yards, giving him 169 all-purpose yards) Defense: Junior DT B. J. Benning (4 tackles, 3 sacks) Special teams: Sophomore DB/KR John "Fear Itself" Kennedy (3 kickoff returns for 95 yards, setting up a short field on three seperate occasions)

Q & A with... Lehigh RB Matt McGowan

Continuing my series of interviews I did for Patriot League media day, we continue with senior RB Matt McGowan , the Mountain Hawk running back that looks to be doing some inside running now that he's (finally) healthy. LFN: Tell me a little about your background. MMG: I played at Hazelton Area high school which is about an hour away from Bethlehem, had a pretty good high school career, chose to attend the University of Richmond on full scholarship. LFN: Why did you choose to transfer? MMG: It really didn’t feel like a good fit when I was there, so I chose to transfer to Lehigh after my freshman year. I really wanted to be closer to friends and family – it was pretty far to go to Richmond, a seven hour drive as opposed to only being an hour away from home. I was recruited by Lehigh pretty heavily throughout my high school career with coach Lembo’s coaching staff before coach Coen was here, and I had good relationships with all of those coaches, so I always kept my mind open t...
