In the run-up to the game versus New Hampshire, you can bet New Hampshire head coach Sean McDonnell and Lehigh head coach Andy Coen will want to talk about lots of things. The Wildcats lead off the year against an FBS squad, Central Michigan, and the defending Patriot League champions, Colgate.  They're both very winnable games, and they'll hope to be 2-0 going into Bethlehem off of a bye week and a tough first two games. Lehigh will have come off opening games against Central Connecticut State, Monmouth and Princeton, and hope to have solidified all the questions going into training camp - and, hopefully, justified their ranking at No. 17 in the preseason coaches' poll. You can bet, though, what New Hampshire and Lehigh won't want to talk at all about the Wildcats's last visit to Murray Goodman Stadium. That's because they'd then have to talk about "the Divot".

(Photo Credit: Image By Hugo ) Preseason training camp is here. Officially.  As of today, members of the 2013 Lehigh football squad reported today for their weigh-in. One of those players was  senior RB Cody Haupt , who is our highlighted Lehigh football athlete in today's countdown.

The so-called "Big 5" conferences of collegiate athletics don't want things to remain the way they've been. "Relative to the legislative process, we are very much at a point now where we can't get anything that's transformative through the system," Big XII commissioner Bob Bowlsby said earlier this month , helping kick off football media day season with fireworks. "I think that's particularly felt by seven or eight conferences and the five major conferences in particular. It is just very difficult to do anything that would benefit our student athletes or our institutions that doesn't get voted down by the larger majority." What's the real story behind the NCAA legislative process - what's the showdown really all about?  And why is this important?

Today, Lehigh unveiled their new athletics website .  Today, though, at LFN, we unveil our latest Lehigh football athlete during our countdown to CCSU. At no. 32, we honor incoming  freshman LB Colton Caslow .

(Photo Credit: Lehigh Athletics) Despite the meetings with the other coaches beforehand, despite the bustling schedule of Media Day, where coaches are shunted around for two straight hours, fielding video spots, and reporter after reporter with digital recorders in hand, by the time I got to Lehigh head coach Andy Coen , any stress from the commotion was not evident anywhere when I talked to him. Perhaps part of that came due to his incredible success over the past three seasons. With a 31-6 record in the past three years, two Patriot League Championships, playoff wins against the CAA and Missouri Valley champs, and last year's 10-1 record, his three last years at Lehigh can be stacked up against anyone's in the country. Tomorrow, Lehigh football players will report for camp, and on Wednesday, they will start with their first preseason practice of the season, 32 days away until it starts vs. Central Connecticut State. At no. 32, we honor incoming  freshman LB Evan Harvey  as our highlighted Lehigh football athlete.
