You know by now that Lehigh is going to the Big Dance. You know by now that they're facing off against Duke in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday ay 7PM, to be seen nationally on CBS. You knew, too, that there would be Madness surrounding the trip to the NCAA tournament. But quite this much Madness? When Lehigh faced off against Kansas two years ago, Lehigh's odds of winning the tournament were put at "a Googleplex-to-one".  Literally . This time around, though, I can tell you this - it's not a Googleplex anymore.  And a whole lot of fans around the Lehigh Valley think maybe, just maybe, this team can bring down Mike Krzyzewski 's team on the 20 year anniversary of Christian Laettner 's shot and only two years removed from beating Butler for their most recent championship.

March Madness is here, and my pool still is alive. I'm grateful. In the Morning Call today Andre Williams caught up with Mike Polaha to talk about the twentieth anniversary of our #16 seeded Lehigh team from 1987 who almost - came so close - to knocking off #1 seeded Temple. That team (IMO clearly the best to ever don the brown and White) featured two Lehigh hall-of-famers in Darren Queenan and Polaha. Of course, as soon as I got to Lehigh as an undergrad we didn't return to the dance until 2004. (The "LFN Curse"?) Spring practice has started today, weather permitting, at 4:15. But I will give it its proper treatment tomorrow. Don't forget American is playing Tennessee at 12:30AM tomorrow on CBS locally (and if you, like me, signed up for March Madness On Demand , you can see the game in its entirety). I know it can be hard sometimes to root for the Patriot League representatives in the postseason, being a Lehigh fan. But today is the time. In one of the last games of the first round, Holy Cross will playing Southern Illinois on CBS in your local area (or, if you can't do that, you can sign up for March Madness On Demand for free) at about 9:45 EST tonight. I'm so thrilled with the Crusaders that I'm going to attempt to write an in-running blog of the whole affair as it's going on. I'm not sure if I would have done it anyway, but after hearing that famous Holy Cross alumnus Bill Simmons would be dropping out of his ESPN in-running first-round diary just before the best game of the first round at 9:45PM, I felt like somebody needed to pick up the slack, and that person ought to be me. I always seem to get suckered into Christopher Guest movies. With a boatload of incredibly funny actors, in theory they should keep you laughing all the way through the movie - though, in practice, they generally end up being too angry towards whom they're satirizing and aren't funny enough. What ends up happening is like what happens in his latest movie, For Your Consideration - about three dozen of the funniest people on the planet trying to steal the airtime with characters that probably belong in their own movie. How does this relate to today, the opening day of the NCAA tournament? One of the characters from is the movie, publicity agent Corey Taft (hilariously played by John Michael Higgins ), has one of those characters that you end up quoting for weeks afterward -and has the line that sums up the NCAA tournament in one, neat line.
