Big-Time Wrestling And Hoops This Weekend

It's been a long, trying week for me, so I haven't had any time to write up the weekends' matchups.  And you'd better believe there's a lot to watch this weekend - Lehigh's wrestlers closing out their EIWA dual schedule with two nationally-ranked opponents, and the men's and women's basketball teams both playing crucial games against - you guessed it - "that school in Easton". What I'm going to do is paste a bit of each release, with a bit of a commentary from me, perhaps, to hype up the weekend's sports events - just in case they needed hyping up any more already.  (more)

Everything I Know About Lehigh's Class of 2014

As long as I've been doing this, Lehigh generally waits a week after Lafayette announces their incoming class, and "that school in Easton" always announces on "signing day" every year.  That is, until this year when a day after "Letter of Intent day I get an email alert. "Lehigh announces the class of 2014." I shook my head.  What? A thought went through my brain - maybe it was a mistake, that Lehigh Sports information released the list early by accident. But it was no accident.  This was really it - this year's class of 2014, announced officially , complete with selected video of the recruits.  And there's plenty to be excited about below the flip - I assure you - with as much information as I could figure out about the incoming class.  (more)

Four More (Regular Season) Hoops Games

As every follower of Patriot League basketball knows, it's all about the tournament.  It doesn't matter if it's men's or women's basketball - historically, winning the tournament is the only way to make it to the NCAA tournament. With both teams sitting precariously atop the Patriot League standings, both teams know that it's crucial that they take care of business the rest of the way.  Four more games, that is.  And that means taking care of Colgate tonight in both Bethlehem, PA  and Hamilton, NY.  (more)

A Good Month For Ex-Lehigh Coaches (And Players)

As interesting as the Dave Cecchini hiring was for Lehigh, he was hardly the only former member of the Brown & White getting hired. No fewer than four more ex-Lehigh players and ex-Lehigh coaches got jobs this month - including one former star QB that will now be taking over at his alma mater.  (High school alma mater, that is.) Cecchini - Officially This Time - Returns to Lehigh

What was rumored last week became official this weekend: a former Lehigh player has officially returned to South Mountain to become the Mountain Hawks' quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. After the rumor was broken by Keith Groller on his blog at the Morning Call , the official announcement was made at the football banquet this weekend along with an official release from Lehigh : former Leigh player and assisant coach Dave Cecchini is indeed returning to Lehigh. Cech is not the only former Lehigh assistant coach to be heading to a new position this month - but his return after being dismissed at the Citadel is clearly the dominant story.  (more)
