This is a very quick post just to share something that irritated me a little. The Morning Call was covering a charity golf tournament hosted by the Philadelphia Eagles' Brian Dawkins, and it naturallly gives an opportunity to interview some current players coming up to have a fun day and raise money for a good cause.
Now, I can understand why the Eagles players think that coming up to "basic training" at Lehigh isn't exactly a picnic, but is this really necessary?
The several Philadelphia Eagles who ventured to Saucon Valley Country Club on Monday for the Brian Dawkins' Burn Prevention Foundation annual charity golf outing knew they were close to their training camp practice fields at Lehigh University.
And they kept a healthy distance away.''On the way up [from South Jersey],
I was like 'This is a bad drive. I remember this road,''' safety J.R. Reed said.
''I wasn't even there last year because I didn't sign with them until later, but I remember it from the year before. It's a gloomy ride. But you're excited when that time [to report to camp] comes.''
Gloomy?
Gloomy, to me, is England in December, Russia in the spring, or Scotland any time of the year. Not the wonderful drive up to Lehigh.
Perhaps they're just going the wrong way: they way my wife and I go is one of my favorite drives in the world via PA 413, PA 611, and PA 412. Going through Buckingham, Riegelsville, the orchard, the farms... it's a beautiful bit of Americana that I haven't been able to find anywhere else in the world. Compare that to the drive to Villanova, Delaware... booo-ring.
I'll just have to assume they always take the PA extension. Not exactly Moscow in February, but not PA 412, either.
