I have a confession to make: this year, I resolved, I would do a better job in getting information about Lehigh recruits. Unfortunately, the information on this year's recruits is simply a trickle of rumors from message boards and not nearly as much hard information that I'd like. [UPDATED]
It's mid-January now - just the time that many recruits around the nation are announcing to local papers their intended colleges - and I figured I'd gather up all the rumors and unconfirmed names and list them here along with some websites with information.
OT/DT William Reich (pictured), Worcester Academy (MA). Listed as 6'4, 274 on Scout.com, he reportedly was a 3 star recruit until he got hurt in the summer of his senior year. Rumored to have already committed to Lehigh.
TE Justin Maneri, Saddle Brook (NJ). Listed at 6'8, 230, he reportedly has already committed to come to Lehigh as a basketball player and not a football player. He's listed here just in case he finds his way on the football field, where he could be a formidable tight end.
RB Geoff Easterling, Atholton HS (MD). 5'10 and 191, his name has been floated out on the message boards and listed as a "player considering" on ESPN. Could be a nice slashing back like Walker.
RB Colin Reno, Scarsdale HS (NY). 5'11 and 185, he's another prototypical Ron Jean-style back who is also listed as a "player considering" on ESPN. Has a highlight video showing his speed and vision as a back. ESPN describes his as "a productive tailback at the high school level who combines good speed and strength as a runner. Shows good vision and shiftiness in the openfield; he eludes blockers with subtle yet effective cuts while keeping forward progress."
ILB Michael Brookmon, Charlotte Christian (NC). 6'1 and 207, he is listed on ESPN as a "player considering". ESPN writes: "Brookmon is a tough, undersized middle backer who possesses a good nose for the football and plays with a passion. Takes sharp pursuit angles and flashes a burst to hit the run seam inside-out."
QB Ryan Haslett, Holmdell HS (NJ). 6'2 and 195, he's a mobile QB listed on ESPN as a "player considering" and also has Columbia on his list of possibles. Ran for 83 yards and was a great leader in a nail-biting 13-10 victory for the Hornets in the Class D championship.
OL/DL Chris Workman, Princess Anne HS (VA). 6'2 and 282 and strong in the weight room, it looks like this lineman could really have a nice impact. Listed on ESPN as a "player considering".
Look for more information in the days and weeks ahead.
[UPDATE 1]: Found this name, but not sure if he's coming for football or wrestling:
DT Robert Prigmore, Carroll HS (TX). Played as a DT in high school and played in the local playoffs in football, but according to this report he's "focusing on wrestling" - which seems to imply that he's going to be a grappler for Lehigh.
[UPDATE 2]: Found another name - if he pans out, could be a great recruit from the middle of an area that routinely cranks out top prospects.
LB Chase McMann, Coral Springs HS (FL). 6'2 and 215, McMann is a top Florida prospect that has seen interest from both Colgate and Lehigh.
