Lehigh 49, Harvard 24, final

A great game for Lehigh. The story of this game is the 3rd quarter where Lehigh took 2 consecutive Harvard turnovers into TDs, thus putting the game out of reach at that point. Throw out the meaningless TD by Harvard late in the game, Lehigh simply dominated the 3rd quarter, and you knew when Murphy yanked O'Hagan to start the 4th quarter he was basically throwing in the towel.

"Graz" always seems to play well, but when it's a big game he really turns it up a notch. Every Harvard play he seemed to be either in on the tackle or around the ball, and his 2 INTs were huge. If he had an 18 tackle day I wouldn't be surprised. He's a lock for a game ball.

Borda, after a tough first half, really came back in the second and got the job done. I was impressed how he shrugged off the early problems and took over, with zip on his passes, good decisions and 2 nice TD runs.

This has definitely been the closest Lehigh has come this year to a "perfect game". That 3rd quarter showed what Lehigh football can be in 2005. Aggressive defense which created turnovers. "Offense with a scalpel" as Borda, "TNT" Rath, Thompson and the whole receiving crew surgically pick apart a defense. Solid special teams returns all day, without exception. Not "perfect", but the best execution all year.

Now, as the league slate starts, the games are even more meaningful, and Holy Cross looks to be an upstart team that may not be an easy "W". Holy Cross/Yale appears to be going to the wire, while Lafayette/G'Town is surprisingly close at half. Games to watch!

More tomorrow. Great win by the Hawks today.

FXRER is drinking again? I thought he had been of the sauce for a while. The secondary was superb. 5 interceptions? Coach opted to zone on occasion with a comfortable lead. Understand the game squeak...nonner. When is the last time you strapped those pads on fxrer, oh thats right, that would be never. Stay home next week, the boys don't need the typical dissatisfied with a 24 point win over a very potent offense non fan. I listened to the fans in the stands after the win. You're not alone, the best coaches are apparently in the stands. In fact, there are probably a few that have beaten top 15 teams by more than three touchdowns. Get a grip fxrer, noone wants to hear your lame analysis.

oh and by the way fxrer the third stringers, as you degrade them, could start for 90% of the 1AA teams in the country and they certainly would like to have you over to the frat house after the game to discuss it Im sure. You are a loser.

Hey Anonymous - you seem so informed about the game that no one else is "smart" enough to have an opinion. You so readily tag contributors as a "loser"...lets have some of your credentials....who did you play for? Way to hide behind your comments.
Enjoy the Blog, allow others to enjoy it, without feeling guilty for having an opinion.

Good for you Scott!!! I am sick to death of this "You never played, so you know nothing" refrain I run into on sports websites. And like you said, the accusers are most likely the ones that have never even played competitive mini-golf.

I've been concerned about the secondary as well as the defensive line from Game One. Pass coverage has been mediocre throughout the season in part because the line hasn't brought enough pressure up the middle. True, the secondary is banged-up and inexperienced, but helping out with double coverage in some situations might cover-up these liabilities. Watching the replays of last week's game only demonstrates that the Harvard QB made some horrible throws - nowhere near his receivers.

The constant coaching carousel on the defensive side can't be helping either. I expect things will improve as the weeks go by, but I think you are justified in feeling concerned.

How The Ivy League Is Able To Break the NCAA's Scholarship Limits and Still Consider Themselves FCS

By now you've seen the results.  In 2018, the Ivy League has taken the FCS by storm. Perhaps it was Penn's 30-10 defeat of Lehigh a couple of weeks ago .  Or maybe it was Princeton's 50-9 drubbing of another team that made the FCS Playoffs last year, Monmouth.  Or maybe it was Yale's shockingly dominant 35-14 win over nationally-ranked Maine last weekend. The Ivy League has gone an astounding 12-4 so far in out-of-conference play, many of those wins coming against the Patriot League. But it's not just against the Patriot League where the Ivy League has excelled.  Every Ivy League school has at least one out-of-conference victory, which is remarkable since it is only three games into their football season.  The four losses - Rhode Island over Harvard, Holy Cross over Yale, Delaware over Cornell, and Cal Poly over Brown - were either close losses that could have gone either way or expected blowouts of teams picked to be at the bottom of the Ivy League. Made-Up Midseason Grades for Lehigh Football

We are now officially midway through the 2023 Lehigh football season.  The Mountain Hawks sit at 1-5 overall, and 0-1 in the Patriot League. I thought I'd go ahead and make up some midseason grades, and set some "fan goals" for the second half. The 2023 Mountain Hawks were picked to finish fifth in the seven team Patriot League.  In order to meet or exceed that expectation, they'll probably have to go at least 3-2 the rest of the way in conference play.  Their remaining games are vs. Georgetown, at Bucknell, vs. Holy Cross, at Colgate, and vs. Lafayette in The Rivalry. Can they do it? Culture Changing: B+ .  I was there in the Bronx last week after the tough 38-35 defeat to Fordham, and there wasn't a single player emerging from the locker room that looked like they didn't care.  Every face was glum.  They didn't even seem sad.  More frustrated and angry. That may seem normal, considering the agonizing way the Mountain Hawks lost, but it was a marked chan

Fifteen Guys Who Might be Lehigh's Next Football Coach (and Five More)

If you've been following my Twitter account, you might have caught some "possibilities" as Lehigh's next head football coach like Lou Holtz, Brett Favre and Bo Pelini .  The chance that any of those three guys actually are offered and accept the Lehigh head coaching position are somewhere between zero and zero.  (The full list of my Twitter "possibilities" are all on this thread on the Lehigh Sports Forum .) However the actual Lehigh head football coaching search is well underway, with real names and real possibilities. I've come up with a list of fifteen possible names, some which I've heard whispered as candidates, others which might be good fits at Lehigh for a variety of reasons. UPDATE: I have found five more names of possible head coaches that I am adding to this list below. Who are the twenty people?  Here they are, in alphabetical order.
