Player of the Week, Lehigh/Georgetown?

I'm away from the blog now, but if you want to nominate someone for Player of the Week vs. Georgetown, you can nominate them by adding a comment to this post.

[EDIT] It's a little late, but I did read all the comments and its senior FB/RB Adam Watson who gets LFN Player of the Week honors this week. When senior RB Matt McGowan went down with a bad ankle injury, Watson took over with 38 yards on seven tough carries, including five on Lehigh's final drive to ice the game for the Mountain Hawks. It's hard to underestimate the effect that a big injury has on the offensive gameplan, and Watson made sure that the gameplan never suffered.

Other honorees this week:

Reader's Choice: Senior FB/RB Adam Watson

Offense: Junior WR Brien Ruyak (6 catches, 86 yards, 1 TD, all career highs)

Defense: Junior LB Al Pierce (7 tackles, first play of second half was a 37 yard interception for a TD)

Special Teams: Sophomore WR Craig "Braveheart" Zurn (2 kickoff returns for 68 yards, including one of 42 yards)

J.B. Clark...coming off two disapointing losses, he regrouped and led the offense to victory throwing two TD's without his top target in uniform. Big game this week! Lets make a run boys.

Brien Ruyak! Stepped up in Yansane's absense. Caught 6 passes for 86 yards and a TD.

Adam Watson's speed and strength, along with his versatility as team player, helped keep the momentum going after McGowan left the game. Got 38 yards in 7 carries. Great job!

Watson, and Campbell. Both stepped up when McGowan got injured, and kept the momentum of the offense going.

We dont throw the ball down the field so I would have to say it has to be both the O line and the recievers who make things happen after after the short throws.

I go with Watson, with a slight edge over Ruyak. Watson's tough running kept the Georgetown defense honest in having to defend the run after McGowan left the game. Ruyak had a 'break out' game and showed good hands. Would have considered Clark, but he still didn't look at some wide open receivers and the interception should never have occured. Still, he didn't let these mistakes bother him and I give him credit for coming back strong.

I don't agree with Clark as best player for this game. He threw an interception and missed wide-open receivers. It wasn't Clark's best game, he performed much better with Colgate. For Georgetown it's definitely Watson who came through big-time, in a new position.

to the comment above. actually i spoke to clark after this game and he told me several times his receivers made the wrong route and he had no choice to throw it anywhere else. he may have not had the best game but his leadership carried this running game. his threat though the air forced the defense to drop more players out of the box making betting lanes for running. nothing bad about watson though because he had a solid game

By now you've seen the results.  In 2018, the Ivy League has taken the FCS by storm. Perhaps it was Penn's 30-10 defeat of Lehigh a couple of weeks ago .  Or maybe it was Princeton's 50-9 drubbing of another team that made the FCS Playoffs last year, Monmouth.  Or maybe it was Yale's shockingly dominant 35-14 win over nationally-ranked Maine last weekend. But it's not just against the Patriot League where the Ivy League has excelled.  Every Ivy League school has at least one out-of-conference victory, which is remarkable since it is only three games into their football season.  The four losses - Rhode Island over Harvard, Holy Cross over Yale, Delaware over Cornell, and Cal Poly over Brown - were either close losses that could have gone either way or expected blowouts of teams picked to be at the bottom of the Ivy League. UMass 21, Lafayette 14, halftime

Are you watching this game? UMass had this game under control until about 3 minutes in the second quarter, and then got an interception, converted for a TD. Then the Leopards forced a fumble off the return, and then converted THAT for a TD, making this a game. It's on CN8. You really should be watching this.

Made-Up Midseason Grades for Lehigh Football

 We are now officially midway through the 2023 Lehigh football season.  The Mountain Hawks sit at 1-5 overall, and 0-1 in the Patriot League. I thought I'd go ahead and make up some midseason grades, and set some "fan goals" for the second half. The 2023 Mountain Hawks were picked to finish fifth in the seven team Patriot League.  In order to meet or exceed that expectation, they'll probably have to go at least 3-2 the rest of the way in conference play.  Their remaining games are vs. Georgetown, at Bucknell, vs. Holy Cross, at Colgate, and vs. Lafayette in The Rivalry. Can they do it? Culture Changing: B+ .  I was there in the Bronx last week after the tough 38-35 defeat to Fordham, and there wasn't a single player emerging from the locker room that looked like they didn't care.  Every face was glum.  They didn't even seem sad.  More frustrated and angry.
