Lehigh Football Prospect Friday: Working For It

With only 11 days until "signing day", it's starting to get interesting in the world of college football recruiting.  Even though Lehigh doesn't announce their incoming class of 2014 exactly on "signing day" (historically, Lafayette announces theirs, and Lehigh announces theirs a week later in order to maximize local press coverage), there's still plenty of buzz on who the new football members might be.  (Even though, technically, we're in a "quiet period" in recruiting right now.) Like the Ivy League, the Patriot League recruits nationally, due to their requirements for high academics.  There are a lot of football athletes out there, but not a lot of them can boast 3.85 GPAs and high board scores.  While Patriot League schools can and do tap players from the local area, in recent years they've gone all over the United States to find the type of student-athlete that fits the bill.  It's sometimes hard to think of an eastern Penns

"The Rivalry" On The Mats And Hardwood This Weekend

As the Lehigh men's basketball team put their finishing touches on their 74-60 rout of 5-13 Colgate yesterday , somewhere the people in the offices of the Patriot League had to be smiling. It's not because that the folks working in the Patriot League offices are Lehigh fans in particular, but the Mountain Hawks' win over the Raiders, along with Lafayette's 61-57 escape over 6-14 Bucknell, means that first place in the Patriot League will be on the line when Lehigh and Lafayette face off at Stabler Arena at 7:00 pm this Saturday. A possible sellout at Stabler this Saturday.  The 12-7 Mountain Hawks vs. the 13-6 Leopards.  One historic rivalry.  189 vs. 190 in the Real Time RPI .  First place.  What's not to love?  (more)

Around Patriot League Football: Six Degrees of Separation, and Juicy Rumors

Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth. - Wikipedia So what does this mean for Patriot League football fans, aside from a gratuitous reference to the movie starring Will Smith and Stockard Channing ?  In researching the latest news around the Patriot League and some of the coaching moves that have been happening this year, at times it feels like every coaching move is related, in some way, to the Patriot League.  (More)

A Pretty Good Weekend For Lehigh And New Orleans, Huh?

While I wasn't exactly as relaxed as the adorable (ecch) furry thing pictured to my left this weekend, shortly after RB Tim Hightower gave this Saints fan a brief scare Saturday afternoon after the University of Richmond graduate rumbled basically untouched for 70 yards to give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead my blood pressure never blipped above, oh, 121 over 83 the rest of the weekend. Considering there were four big sporting events this weekend, that's pretty remarkable.  (More)
